Gears of War will never come to the PS3

Bad news for PlayStation 3 gamers who were holding out for Epic Games to bring its Gears of War 3 franchise to the Sony do-it-all box. Cliff Bleszinski or “CliffyB” as he is so often called says the third-person chainsaw-gunning series will remain an Xbox 360 exclusive for the foreseeable future. Why doesn’t the man want to bring it to more powerful PS3 console? Here’s a hint: it involves him not liking the Sony DualShock3 controller design.

Speaking with Industry Gamers, here’s what CliffyB had to say about Gears of War for the PS3:

“I would say in the foreseeable future there’s zero chances of Gears of War being on the PlayStation 3. Can we bury that now? Seriously. It’s like, we have a great deal with Microsoft, they’re a great partner…”

“It’s one of those things that would be exciting news. Hopefully DualShock would get tweaked a little bit, but anyway, enough about that.”

Another reason for no Gears on PS3? Microsoft must be paying him and Epic Games a boatload of cash to keep the series an exclusive. The next installment of Gears of War 3 comes out on Xbox 360 on September 20. PS3 owners, you’re out of luck, sorry.

Epic would like to bring Gears of War to PS3

Epic President Mike Capps said while speaking at GDC that, “We would love to ship Gears of War on the PlayStation 3, but Microsoft has really compelling reasons to partner with Microsoft.”

Xbox 360 fans can breathe a little easier knowing that Gears of War will remain an Xbox 360 exclusive for the time being, but Capps was clear that Epic does own the Gears of War IP and they would like to bring the trilogy to the PlayStation 3 to get Resistance and Killzone players into Gears.

Capps said it is possible that Gears could come to the PlayStation 3 in the future because they own the franchise in the IP, but he apparently did not say anything beyond that. Xbox 360 fans will continue to hope that Microsoft continues to offer Epic compelling reasons to partner with them, as Gears of War has been one of the strongest exclusive franchises for the platform.

Sources tell us that Microsoft isn’t eager to lose their exclusivity for Gears of War on the Xbox 360, so we would not expect it to end any time soon.

Gears of War not coming to PS3 anytime soon says Epic Games

Gears of War 3 on PS3? Don’t bet on it. Epic Games Design Director Cliff Blezsinski told us just days ago it’s not “going to happen anytime soon.” Read on to find out why.

Last week we got the chance to talk to Cliff Bleszinski about his newest co-project Bulletstorm, and much more. Among the topics discussed was the possibility of Gears of War ever appearing on PlayStation. Not. Gonna. Happen.

“I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon,” Bleszinski told us.

There are some who still haven’t given up hope of Gears of War ever releasing on PS3, but Microsoft’s Gears of War exclusivity deal was obviously too good to resist.

“I think our current set with Microsoft dictates that for us internally it makes more sense for Gears to remain a 360 franchise for the foreseeable future…plus I don’t like the PlayStation 3 controller.”
