Battlefield 3 Shipped Over 10 Million Units Globally

EA announced during its Q2 earnings call last night that Battlefield3 has shipped 10 million units globally.

“Battlefield 3 was launched on Tuesday and has opened very strong,” commented EA’s CEO and executive director, John Riccitiello. “We shipped 10 million units to retail and we are already receiving reorders. The data is still early but sell-through is strong.”

COO of EA, Peter Moore added, “As you know, we launched this title earlier this week, and the results have been tremendous, thanks to the superb quality of the title produced by our DICE Studio in Stockholm, and the world-class marketing executed by our teams globally.”

Battlefield 3 Receives a Couple Million Pre-Orders

EA revealed that pre-orders for Battlefield 3 have reached “a couple of million.”

Product manager Kevin O’ Leary, told Fox Business that the shooter was “doing very, very well” in terms of pre-orders.

“A couple million out there. We already announced some great numbers so far. A couple more weeks to go, and we’re very excited.”

“We’re getting out in a great window. Obviously, holiday season is a great time to get the games out there,” he added. “New thing for Battlefield, too, coming out in this holiday window, so we’re excited about it, to get it out there, get it in people’s hands.”

It was announced in September that Battlefield 3 pre-orders have topped 1.25 million.

Battlefield 3 Confirmed To Have Online Pass

DICE’s Core Gameplay Designer, Alan Kertz, confirmed today that Battlefield 3 will have an online pass system.

Kertz was asked by a fan on Twitter, “do you need to buy a new battlefield 3 to play xbox live?” Alan responded “You can also purchase an online pass for a used copy.”

Battlefield 2 had a similar system where original buyers had a VIP pass that provided access to all maps. Second hand buyers were required to buy the VIP pass to access all maps.

Previous PlayStation 3 titles to use an online pass are Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3.

DICE Reveals Massive Plans For Battlefield 3 DLC

DICE’s creative director Lars Gustavsson revealed that there are “massive” plans for Battlefield 3 DLC.

“We’ve completely restructured our studio around it. Nowadays, we have operations team who looks at the title when it starts getting closer to launch (or long before) with potential downloadable content and so on, to reallyhave a plan. Otherwise you’re quite likely to start slipping. If you’re focusing just before release on what you’re going to ship post-launch, then I think you have problems.”

“So, yes there is a massive plan in place,” he confirmed to MCV.

Battlefield 3 will release on October 25 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Battlefield 3 Will Look, Play and Sound Better Than The Beta

DICE General Manager Karl Troedsson explained in a blog that Battlefield 3 will play better and have improved visuals over the beta. Troedsson explained the beta is early coding.

“The Battlefield 3 Open Beta is based on software that is more than one month old,” said Troedsson.

“Just like normal procedure when releasing a game, the Open Beta has had long lead times due to testing, certification, and setting up. This means that the code you are now playing is actually quite early and not representative of the final game.”

“We had to do this in order to have as many people testing as possible, in order to ensure a top quality experience when the game is released.”

“We appreciate your time and your feedback. The data and feedback from the Open Beta will not only directly affect the final game of Battlefield 3, but its future development and support,” added Troedsson.

“The final game will look, play and sound better than the Open Beta. You have helped making sure of that.”

Battlefield 3 will release out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on October 25.

Battlefield 3 Beta Delayed On PS3

Battlefield 3 open beta for PlayStation 3 has been delayed.

DICE tweeted this morning, “The Battlefield 3 Open Beta is now live on all formats! Full info on the blog: www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/beta”

However, 15 minutes after the tweet announcing the open beta, DICE tweeted again, “For PlayStation 3 users in North America, expect the Battlefield 3 Open Beta to be available later today.”

No time has been announced when it will be available on PlayStation 3.

PS3 To Get Battlefield 3 DLC’s Week Long Exclusivity

The junior product manager at DICE, Tommy Rydling, revealed today that PlayStation 3 gamers will get the first look at Battlefield 3 expansion packs. BF3 DLC’s will be available exclusive to PS3 for a week before it is released for Xbox 360 and PC.

The first Battlefield 3 DLC will be Back to Karkland, which will be available to those who pre-order the game. If you did not pre-order the game you can purchase the DLC later this year.

Battlefield 3 is due on October 25, 2011 across PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

EA Confirms Battlefield 3 Beta Coming Next Week

EA will launch Battlefield 3′s beta on PlayStation 3 on September 29.

Those who purchased the Limited/Tier 1 edition of Medal of Honor will get access to the beta on September 27. PC owners who pre-ordered the digital download of Battlefield 3 via EA’s Origin platform will also get early access to the beta.

Battlefield 3 will be released on October 25.
