Sony Talks About PlayStation 4 Being A Distraction
President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America Jack Tretton commented in a interview with IGN about PlayStation 4 being a distraction for the company.
Tretton said that the release of PS4 will depend on Sony’s current platforms and how they perform.
“In terms of when you talk about [the next generation] and when you announce it, it really depends on the health of the existing platform and the other things you have going on,” Tretton said. “And right now, we’re focused on PlayStation 3, and I’ve got another platform (PS Vita) to get out the door in seven days, so I don’t want to be thinking about trying to launch new technology anytime soon. I want to focus all our energy on our console business, which is really just hitting its stride, and Vita, which really deserves a dedicated push from us.”
Tretton admitted he would be distracted if he had to discuss PlayStation 4 this year.
“I, quite frankly, would be very distracted if I had to be talking about next generation hardware this year.”
Personally I think if Sony wants the PlayStation 4 to out perform the other companies they should be the first to announce the release of the next generation console. With xbox prices consistently lower than PlayStations, Sony needs every advantage that they can get. Especially with the way the economy has been over the last few years.

I’m with Jack Tretton on this. It is really important that they focus on their current generation consoles right now instead of jumping to the next generation consoles. We all know that PS3 has great abilities and can still run the new games easily so why introduce a new system when the current one is doing great? Sony needs to concentrate on their current consoles and keep improving the PS3. I think it would be better if Sony introduces the PS4 after XBox 720 is released as the people would obviously want a newer console. But this time Sony needs to keep in line the price range because when they introduced the PS3 with it’s huge price tag it did not attract a lot of people.
Lets just hope Sony takes the right decision.
that’s BS about being distracted. They are not doing themselves any favors by keeping new products coming out. If anything they should be trying there best to impress the customers after their big hack!!!
The PS 3 has actually consistently outsold the 360 each year if you match the sales figures correctly, as year 1 to year 1 and so forth. MS still has a long way to go to impress me enough to buy another Xbox console, the 1st one was good, but lacked exclusive content, the 2nd not so good and only slightly better exclusive content that mostly either moved to PS3 or PC. Sony and Nintendo still rule as kings in game development, Microsoft is way behind in that department.

Personally, I think the Playstation 4 should come out this year. I mean seriously, its been what 5 years since the ps3 came out? It is well do for a update.
It’s been thousands of years since the book came out, no update is required yet. You only require an update once the current system is broken or worthless, neither of which the PS3 is yet.
Xbox 360 is alot better than ps3 and im not saying this from a baiss opinion because i have a ps3 atm its horrible the opperating system is terrible take the music side of it sony was one of the greatest companys when iy came to music gagets but you cant even play music while your playing a game where as xbox you can personally the only good thing ps3 have going for it is the free online other than thats its a pile of poo.

PS4 will be a major deviation from current hardware specs. I’d expect more solid state technology as well as utilization of cloud networks for gaming options. Forget optical drives, they’ll be extinct in a few years.

Me and my dad desperately want one. I have the playstation vita which im use right now to type this. I have heard people saying that the ps4 will be like combining the ps vita and the ps3. That makes me want one even more desperetly!!!!!!
In Africa for us in Botswana is an advantage to release the latest consoles because all our stores here the prices are ridiculous so the time the new one is released the price will go down!
