PS3 Next Price Drop Waiting For PlayStation 4 Announcement

Published by:

According to many analysts Sony is refusing to drop the price on the PlayStation 3 this holiday season, as they don’t want to cut it again when the PS4 is announced.

Mike Hickey of National Capital Alliance said Sony is not in a position to take anymore risks.

“They’re in a position now where they don’t want to take any more losses. We expect there will likely be a PS4 next year, and I think that’s where they’re putting the majority of their resources.   “Clearly they’re not showing willingness to drive velocity with a price cut, but their competitors are. If they cut the price now, they’ll just have to cut it again when they announce PS4.   “So maybe they are thinking ‘Let’s limp this through until the announcement’ and then they’ll do the next price cut similar to what Nintendo did with Wii in front of Wii U,” Hickey said.

PS4 Receiving Upgraded Move Controller?

Published by:

The PlayStation 4 could be receiving an upgraded Move controller. Sony filed a new patent for the PlayStation Move controller that supposedly heats up and cools down in your hands.

The temperature of the controller will change depending on the action within the game. For example if playing a FPS such as Call of Duty and your gun overheats, your controller also increases in temperature.

“As the weapon heats up, the controller light may change from a cooler color to a warmer color, such as from blue or green to orange or red. Similarly, when the weapon cools down, the color exhibited may revert to the cooler color,” the patent reads.

Sony has not announced this technology yet, and there is no clear indication if this will be first introduced for the PS3 or PlayStation 4.

Sony Having Trouble Balancing PS4, PS3, and PS Vita

Reports have surfaced that Sony is struggling with balancing the development of PlayStation 4 games and its current console games.

“We do have a challenge to manage [the next generation of consoles], particularly in terms of dev studio resources,” said PlayStation UK managing director Fergal Gara.

“The more platforms you have, and the amount of rich content you have to deliver on all the systems you are supporting clearly puts pressure on decisions made across the studio network, which is something we are battling with.”

PS4 is expected to support 4K playback and with Sony’s recent acquisition of Gaikai the PS4 could offer cloud-based streaming service.

The studio posted a job advertisement for a Senior Vehicle Artist.

“As the vehicle is almost always located in the center of player’s view, it’s imperative that the vehicle looks sensational at all times,” reads the job ad.

“This roles requires the artist to have a passion for cars to have strong artistic ability and technical knowledge to help further the overall quality of the vehicles in-game.”
