No Price Increase For PS4 Games

Published by:

Fear of PS4 games costing $70 has been put to rest. According to Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot the PlayStation 4 games will cost less to develop and there won’t be a price increase.

The revenue generated from DLCs will keep the cost of games down, preventing the $10 increase we saw when the new PlayStation 3 games were released compared to the previous average of $50.

“[What] we see is that the end of a cycle is always a time when people are creating bigger and bigger games to differentiate themselves from the competition, and with a new console coming you can really leverage the capacity of the hardware and all the new features that come with the console to bring a new experience to your consumer,” said the executive, “So you need to invest less on the size of those games to still give a great experience. So at the beginning of that generation we won’t have an increase—or a very small increase—of the cost of games that will be launched.”

SCEA President Opposes PS4 Blocking Used Games

Published by:

With rumors heating up that Sony’s PlayStation 4 will block used games, analyst Michael Pachter claims to have heard from SCEA president Jack Tretton that he “completely opposes” blocking used games.

Jack Tretton feels “it would be anti-consumer” for the PS4 to enforce gamers from playing used games.

“Tretton told me that, for the record, he’s completely opposed to blocking used games,” Pachter said. Tretton also purportedly said that “maybe Japan thinks different” on the matter, inferring that the PlayStation division in Tokyo may still be considering implementing this anti-pre-owned technology in the PS4.
